Things not to say to unemployed, job-seeking attorneys

I wrote this post back in October, never dreaming that nearly a seven months later, I'd still be without a job. But here I am, and here it is. At the time, I was rubbed raw about a comment about my unemployment, and wrote this as a response. However, I didn't post it because I feared repenting in leisure. Today, I'm not angry. I'm not upset about anyone's words. And I'm really glad most of my friends have jobs. I will admit I'm extremely frustrated about my self-perceived lack of forward momentum and the way I feel stuck in neutral while the rest of the world passes me by. I yearn for a sense of autonomy. A sense of purpose. And let's not forget actually having cash on hand. Regardless, I think this is a good and somewhat funny post and it seems a shame to let it lay around in my drafts folder.

Also, enjoy this excellent gif of how I react when anyone tries to tell me about what I should be doing differently during my job hunt:

Just...no.

JOBLESS AND HOPELESS:

Some of y'all out there don't realize how much your words may hurt. Allow me to bring that to your attention...............

Things Not to Say to Newly Minted, Unemployed, Job-Seeking Attorneys

  1. “Why don’t you just work pro bono for a while?”

OMG, I’D LOVE TO WORK PRO BONO. I’m assuming you’ll be paying for my malpractice insurance in case someone sues me? No? Oh, then you’ll pay any court costs that arise for my clients who cannot pay filing fees and cannot get them waived? No? Then SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  2. “Wow. After seeing how hard of a time you’re having finding gainful employment, I’m so glad I’ve got a job!”

I do not care how well-meaning you are. This comes across as smug. And offensive. And generally douchey. And quite frankly, I’m not sure how you think comparing your employment to my PROFESSIONAL LIFE SUCKING is supposed to be (a) supportive, (b) empathetic, or (c) appropriate in any setting.

  3. “What are you doing wrong?”::deep breath:: I really don’t want to have this conversation with you. I also REALLY don’t want to rip your head off. If I’m doing anything wrong, it’s surrounding myself with assholes like you. But seriously, I invite you to look at legal employment statistics, right now: here, here, and here. Then I invite you to shut the fuck up.
  4. “You can open your own practice! It will be easy!”

I’ll forgive you for your ignorance this one time. Firms cost money. And I’m unemployed. And I don’t have malpractice insurance. And I don’t have any forms. And I’ve never practiced law before, so my potential for screwing this up is remarkably high. I also can’t afford a legal search engine. And I’m scared. And did I mention I have no money?!?!

  5. ::quotes depressing employment statistic::

Good for you! You read the above links and know about unemployment in America! Again, how is it supposed to make us feel any better? If anything, it makes us feel worse, because we’re now a statistic, and these numbers don’t offer anything in way of improving our situation.
  6. “Maybe you should lower your expectations.”
You’re absolutely right! I should work at Footlocker! Or for no money! And no benefits! Also, I should absolutely welcome sexual harassment from the skeezy guy that’s offered me a great “business opportunity.” Look, buddy: I’m not looking for a $100,000 per year job. I just want to get paid for my work. And I’d like to work in a field where I’m utilizing the degree for which I’m currently paying student loans. If my expectations get any lower, I might as well cut up my cardboard box and get out my Sharpie marker.
Being unemployed and looking is hard. I’ve applied for a lot of jobs. I’ve been rejected by all of them in some fashion. I know many people are well-meaning, and just as many just don’t think before they open their mouths. However, it hurts. My first student loan bill just came in. And if you don’t think I had a mini-breakdown thinking about my inability to repay these debts, then you’d be wrong.

None of us like to show how much this continuous rejection hurts. I like to make funny posts about my bevvy of job-hunting fails because it minimizes the fear and upset and confusion and uncertainty. We also don’t like to tell you to shut up, because a lot of times it’s the people closest to us that are making these comments.

So please, before you try to “empathize” with new (or even old) lawyers that cannot find a job, think about the comment you’re about to make. If it’s anything other than “I’m really sorry” or “I hope things start looking up for you,” then don’t say it. Treat us like we’ve just suffered some great loss. Because we have. We have lost our confidence. And our faith.

And even though we know it will eventually get better, it doesn’t minimize the enormity of now.

No, she doesn't leap buildings with a single bound...because she isn't GIVEN THE CHANCE.

The Moving Doll of Allaire House

My family house finally sold and I have been thinking about it a lot lately.  This is the blog post from my last trip to the house.  I will miss it.

For the last week, I've stayed in my family home.  My family home, The Newton-Allaire House, in Cheboygan, Michigan has served as my inspiration for many years. It has always been my favorite place, and, as a child, I would have prefered to stay in this ghostly mansion than take a trip to Disney World. The old mansion is filled with ghosts and ghost stories and if you scroll down you'll find some of the many ghost stories that I grew up with. Lately, the ghost stories from this house have been few and far between. It has sat empty since my grandmother died and my family decided to sell the house. For many years, the house didn't sell and sat in silence, as if waiting for something. I always prayed that it wouldn't sell, although I know the rest of my family has prayed it would. The rest of my family sees the house as a decaying burden that serves no purpose. I have always seen it as a link to our family history. This week, if all goes well, the house will sell. I will say goodbye to the beautiful mansion that inspired so many of my ghost stories and will always haunt my dreams. Such is life, but as the house vanishes from my life, I've caught my first glimpse of paranormal activity here that I've seen in years.

On Tuesday, my boys played tricks on each other in the upstairs bedrooms of the old house. My older son moved a doll from room to room and tried to convince his younger brother that the doll was evil and moving on its own. After my younger son came screaming down the stairs in terror, I decided to put an end to this game. I went upstairs with my angry face on and found a mound of what looked like a small child beneath the covers in one of the bedrooms. The mound was moving and I could see it shifting beneath the sheets. I could even see a hand moving under the sheet.  I assumed it was my eldest son, waiting to leap out at his youngest brother and scare him to death. I pulled back the covers and found the large plastic doll under the sheets staring out at me with glassy eyes. I have never been afraid of strange events in this house, but I knew if my sons found out about this they would  be sleeping on top of me so I have kept this event to myself. It is the first unexplained event in this house for many years and I think it means that even though I won't be here anymore, the house is awake again.  The pictures I took of the house this trip have a few orbs in them.  The house is a dusty old lady, so they could be tricks of light and dust, but I'm glad to see some sign of ghosts again.  I'm also glad for the chance to say goodbye to the house I've loved my entire life.

This is a crooked picture of the giant doll I found beneath the sheets.

Diversions

This blogging lark isn't as easy as you think is it?

It's nearly the end of May and I didn't post at all in April so I thought I'd better get something down pronto.

Time management has been a problem. I've been trying to keep the magazines busy with a few submissions and I've managed to sell a few more stories. I have a total of five not yet published – People's Friend, Take A Break, Yours and two in The Weekly News. Being a competition junkie means even more time taken up. Plus, we're in the middle of the exam season so I'm working up at the local college in my invigilator rôle. Then there are the other distractions like Test Cricket, the Cycling Grand Tours and the forthcoming British & Irish Lions rugby tour to Australia.

On top of all that there's the domestic stuff of everyday life like decorating, gardening, repairs etc.

The other problem is that you've all been posting such interesting stuff about writing, publishing and competitions that my trivia will seem a bit... well... trivial. Then there's the contract controversy at DC Thomson which several blogs have commented on including womagwriter and my friend and colleague at Nottingham Writers' Club, Carol.

I know you've all probably got your own personal excuses for not doing what you feel you ought to be doing so I don't expect a great deal of sympathy. So, good luck to everyone with their writing projects this summer and please continue diverting me with your fascinating blogs.

The Vagina Lock

In the midyear of 2010, there was this rumor that just suddenly emerge from nothingness. Well, for me it was a nasty thing to talk to. It was very personal that should be kept by only two individual who are involve in such incident. For a playful tongue, it was a very interesting topic to be discussed - not thinking of the reputation of two celebrities.

Let's have a quick talk about the strange incident that put this two person in an scandalous situation.

Actually, I don't know how to start this in a not-so-disgusting way. Well, we all know that dogs, when copulating, suddenly connects with each other, as if their genitals are tied up. It was natural for them. The female dog locks the genital of her partner, and I don't know the reason why. It was called penis captivus or vaginismus or commonly known as vaginal lock. It is possible that women may lock the same way the latter do. However, this isn't natural for humans though there are incidents of this.

The celebrities I am talking about is Shaina Magdayao and John Lloyd Cruz.

The Story

[Taken from Internet:]
... Shaina Magdayao suffered from vaginal captivus, an occurrence wherein the vaginal opening of a woman closes.

Anonymous people claim that John Lloyd and Shaina were having sex in the latter’s house. At the climax of their tryst, Shaina’s vaginal opening apparently locked while John Lloyd’s genital was inside it.

The two allegedly tried to remedy the situation but to no avail. What they did was to cover themselves with a blanket and rush to the St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Just now, TV host Boy Abunda claims that there is no truth to the ongoing rumors about John Lloyd and Shaina.[a]

That's a little part of the broad urban legend.

  • Some claimed that the hospital is not St. Luke’s Medical Center, that it was Makati Medical Center instead.
  • Other people added information that the two celebrity called their managers for help. Then they sent ambulance to fetch them covered in blanket.
  • The rumor spread in public because the doctor who cured them told the story to other people.
  • The setting of the story is not in John Lloyd Cruz's house but in Shaina Magdayao's residence.

  • Breaking the Silence

In a press conference held to introduce Shaina Magdayao's new teleserye, reporters asked her about the said issue. She answered,
. . I would like to take this opportunity. . Hindi po totoo yun. Nakakalungkot na mayroong mga tao na, Diyos ko hindi ko alam kung saang parte ng isip nila nakuha yun. I think it's the most outrageous chismis sa industriya natin.[a]

[. . I would like to take this opportunity. . It is not true. It's sad to think that there are people who, my God, I don't know where they got this. I think it's the most outrageous gossip in our industry.]
About the witness and claims that other people mentioned, this is what she said,
. . May mga nagsasabi na confirmed daw, may proof pa. Asan yung proof niyo?! I think walang ka sense-sense yun. Hindi nga natin alam kung nangyayari siya sa totoong buhay. . .[a]

[. . Some are saying that this was confirmed, and they have proof with them as well. Where is this proof?! In this advance age, if there's a picture, it should've spread. If you are rushed to E.R., you should have filled up some forms, payments. But they have nothing to show to prove our names were on it. There's no doctor sent in my house. It feels sad that we were created with such thing. If this is actually happening, even for normal people, would you like to go to hospital [in such state]? How about us public figures in which everything we do is being broadcast? I think it was non-sense. We even don't know if this actually happens in real life. . .]
Other people suspected that the said story was made up to hype their new teleseryes, she defended,
Kung gimik siya, definitely it didn't come from our end. Hindi ganyan mag-market ng artista ang Star Magic. Ako gusto kong makilala, mapansin yung talento ko. Not in this negative way. Gusto ko yung dapat napapanood nila, hindi puro chismis lang.[a]

[If this is a gimmick, definitely it didn't come from our end. It's not the way how Star Magic market their artists. Me, I wanted to be recognized, noticed by means of my talent. Not in this negative way. I would prefer something people can watch, not just gossips.]

Usog - Real? ... or Myth?

Is Usog real or just a myth?

We have finished discussing all about Bangungot and Pasma - their causes and effects, and the reality and fiction sides of those said folk diseases. Now, let's have another one. For me this is the second most mysterious, well after Lihi. My first impression on this, when this was introduced to me when I was still a kid, is GROSS. Puting saliva of a stranger in your stomach? No thanks. And how if you're the person causing usog to somebody else? Well, some people would insist you lick their stomach. Hahaha . . .

    Introduction

I don't know if usog still exist to Filipinos. Well maybe to old-fashioned Filipinos, but to modern youngsters, they ignore and don't believe on it any more. I am not saying all of the kids today, but definitely most of them including me. My parents still talk about this, but only at this time that I have interest on it.

I asked my grandmother about it and she told me she still believe in usog. I asked her why people insist to be licked in their stomach. She answered me, Not always. You don't need to be licked, you just need their saliva. Just let them wet your stomach with it. Then I asked her again, what's about saliva? Well, the only thing she respond to me is, Ewan ko ... Sabi nila eh. (I don't know ... That's what others said.)

I'm still wondering who are those nila she was talking about. I think she was referring to those people who first told her about it.

Well, anyway, what is actually Usog?

Usog (others call it Balis and Hinsuokan) is an affliction that causes the affected person a headache, stomach pain, fever, convulsion and some more severe pains or disease. This is often discussed in Filipino Psychology. Usually, the victims of this are kids, but in some occasion adults. If an adult is still experiencing usog, it means that he or she is still a weak person (Usogin). The person who causes usog are said to be overpowering. Not all people can cause usog to somebody. Actually, there are only few people who (I think) has a power to do this, like an evil eye.

In folkloric explanation, there might be some mangkukulam (witch), who are looking badly at you, as if cursing you.

Usog may had been influenced by the Spanish mal de ojo.

    Cure

When you ask somebody how to counteract usog, most of them would answer the use of saliva. Usually, they will tell you to Dilaan mo ako. (Lick me.) and/or Lawayan mo ako. (Put saliva on me.) to avoid usog to the child you greeted. While doing so, he/she should say Pwera usog ... or Pwera barang ....

If the person tells you to lick him, it doesn't mean to lick him in other parts of his body, but to his abdomen. The same place where you need to put the saliva. You just need to wet your finger with it, then rub it to him. In some cases, especially to babies, the finger is rubbed to his heel or sometimes in the forehead. In these two ways, rubbing finger wet with saliva is more used and preferrable.

Other ways on healing or preventing usog is by means of placing the clothing of the afflicted kid or adult in a hot water and then boiling it.

    Scientific Explanation

One theory, explains usog in terms of child distress that leads to greater susceptibility to illness and diseases. There are observations that a stranger (or a newcomer or even a visiting relative) especially someone with a strong personality (physically big, boisterous, has strong smell, domineering, etc.) may easily distress a child. Thus, the child is said to be "overpowered" or nauusog and thus may feel afraid, develop fever, get sick, etc.[a]

In usog, the child's distress is the consequence of the child's failure to adapt to change. It is, in medical terms, the consequence of the disruption of homeostasis through physical or psychological stimuli brought about by the stranger. Technically, the condition results from the child-environment interaction that leads the child to perceive a painful discrepancy, real or imagined, between the demands of a situation on the one hand and their social, biological, or psychological resources on the other. The stressful stimuli to the child may be mental (stranger is perceived as a threat, malevolent or demanding), physiological (loud and/or high-pitched voice of the stranger that is hurting to the child's eardrum; strong smell of the stranger that irritates the child's nasal nerves), or physical (stranger has heavy hands or is taking up too much space).[a]

The stranger's act of gently placing his finger with his saliva to the child's arm, foot, or any particular part of the child's body, could make him more familiar to the child, and thus, reduce if not remove the stress. As the stranger keeps gently saying, "Pwera usog... pwera usog...," the child is made to feel and assured that he means no harm. The usog is said to be counteracted because the child is prevented from succumbing to an illness since the child is no longer in distress. Children or even adults who are shy or have weak personalities are more susceptible to usog in accordance with observations and theory. Some have observed that at times even praising a shy child by a visiting relative caused an usog.[a]

Some Thiamine Benefits For Human Body

    thiamine
At the beginning of his discovery, Dr. Eijkman said that the disease elephantiasis can be cured with regular rice bran.
Dr.. Eijkman find important substance in rice bran can also be found in vegetables, nuts, milk and egg yolks. Important substance is then given the name of thiamine.
Thiamine is easily lost from rice during the milling process. Being a water-soluble vitamin, causing vitamin is easily lost during rice washed and cooked. Most of thiamine in fruits and vegetables are usually lost during prolonged storage. Thiamine is also destroyed in the baked bread and cereals are cooked with baking soda.
    Benefits of Vitamin B1
Thiamine has many health benefits for your body. Among them:
    Enhance Your Body's Energy
Thiamine helps improve blood circulation. Increased blood circulation can help the distribution of oxygen to tissues throughout the body. The higher levels of oxygen that enters the network, the higher the energy level of the body. Especially during intense exercise.
    Prevent Anemia
Anemia causes hypoxia in sufferers. It also triggered a decrease in hemoglobin concentration in the blood. Vitamin B1 plays a role in helping the production of red blood cells and increases the flow of oxygen throughout the body and prevent anemia.
    Glucose Metabolism Helps
Carbohydrate metabolism plays an important role in maintaining the balance of the body's systems, especially in the liver. Keeping blood glucose levels is one of the many roles of liver for the body. Liver ability to manage glucose is inseparable from the role of vitamin B1.
    Maintain Brain Function
Research has shown that thiamine can maintain blood levels of homo-cysteine at a healthy level. Homo-cysteine is an amino acid compound which is needed by the human brain. If the amino acid is not managed properly it will affect the decline in brain function. This vitamin also has the ability to improve the brain's nerve fibers. Beef, liver, shellfish and fish contain large amounts of thiamine.
    Preventing neuropathy
Neuropathy as a disease common in people aged 40 years and over is difficult to avoid due to the decrease in the body's ability to regenerate nerves. But there are still ways for neuropathy did not approach our bodies. One is the increased consumption of vitamin B early on to keep the nervous system so that it can work well.
If you are unable to meet the body's need for thiamine  you can get it in the form of supplementation is widely available in the market. However, before you use it make sure that the supplement is completely safe to use.

Do Ghosts Set Off Smoke Alarms?

For the past week,   our smoke alarms have been going off every night at 9:00pm.   Nothing has been on fire.  There has been no smoke.  The alarms just go off.  We live in a new house we purchased from the builder 5 months ago.  The smoke alarms are brand new, but every night the alarms go off.  This is a huge pain in the ass.   It is loud and wakes up the baby and it creeps out the kids.   Everyone panics and runs around like idiots.  You never realize how hard it is to stop those things from going off until you try to get them to shut up.  I knocked the things off of the ceiling and they still went off in my hand.  I mashed the button.  I took the batteries out.  If one goes off,  they all go off.  It is maddening.

This maddening smoke alarm behavior got me thinking about whether or not a ghost could produce this type of behavior in a smoke alarm.  My preliminary research showed that many people have this problem.   I found countless message boards where people have asked if a haunting could produce an alarm going off every night at the same time.   One person hypothesized the following on a yahoo message board, "If the theory about ghosts being a collection of energy is true, then yes, they could manipulate electrical equipment to do such things, powering if from their own energy."  This made sense to me.  This theory is supported by the large number of people that describe this type of  smoke alarm activity in haunted locations.    Stories like this one from Castle of Spirits http://www.castleofspirits.com/stories03/smokedet.html are prolific.    Another interesting smoke alarm ghost story can be found a http://www.yourghoststories.com/real-ghost-story.php?story=3449.  My husband used to work at the morgue and every night the smoke alarm went off  in front of the cooler where the bodies were kept at 3am on the nose.  It was like clockwork.  It went off for five or ten minutes and then went quiet.  It was more than creepy, especially when you are spending the night alone at the morgue.

So, theoretically a passing spirit or ghost could produce the type of behavior we've observed in our smoke alarms here.  This smoke alarm behavior is made even more frustrating by the fact that it only seems to happen when my husband is gone so the only person that knows what they are doing with the smoke alarms isn't present.   I also wanted to investigate non supernatural possibilities for my faulty smoke alarms.   I did my reading and found that there are many things that can contribute to smoke alarms going off at the wrong time.  Many modern smoke alarms are also triggered by intense heat.  So, if it is very hot and your attic is excessively hot sometimes that will heat the ceiling and trigger the smoke alarm.  Also, if  hot steam from a shower rises up this could trigger the smoke alarm.  It is also always possible that the things are broken and need repair.  I could easily rule out the smoke alarm being broken by talking to my builder.  I could also rule out the attic heat hypothesis by going up into my attic and finding that it was not really hot up there.   That left the steam possibility.  My son does shower every night around nine and after examining his behavior, I think he was setting off the alarm by opening the bathroom door and releasing all the hot steam onto the smoke detector.

Our house is not haunted, but that doesn't make the number of cases of smoke alarms going off without any reason less interesting.   I have never found an explanation for the alarm that went off at the morgue.   The alarm was a hospital alarm that was checked regularly due to tight hospital regulations.  It was in front of the cooler and the air around it was cooler than the rest of the hospital and since the morgue was in the basement there was no attic above it.   My husband and I still tend to believe that the phantoms of the dead locked up in that rancid smelling cooler drifted out late at night, setting off the alarm.

    101 Wednesday, #2

Remember that time I told y'all I would start doing 101 Wednesdays, but then didn't update for a reallllly (ridiculously, embarrassingly) long time? Yeah. I'm not really sorry, but I can pretend I am.

I was going to do it, but then I carried on living my life.

Good news is that leading my life consisted of tackling a few things on my list. Specifically, I can report that I crossed off numbers 4, 19, 59, 78, and 92 and started on quite a few more. And here is my synopsis of living my life and crossing things off lists (which is my FAVORITE)....

    Like smiling, only with lists
    4) Pass Texas Bar Exam: I found out on 05/02/13 that I passed. I'd like to be all cool and say I was really reserved and totally expected to pass, but the truth was I was drunk because that was the only way my mother could tolerate me that day (thus she enabled my margarita habit) and that I nearly had a stroke in the backseat of my own car (she was driving, given my impaired condition) when I heard the joyous news. I got sworn in this Monday (05/13/13).

Pretty sure I did something akin to this in my car.
The spinning may have been because of margaritas, though.

    19) Participate in a 5K: a few weeks before I took the Texas Bar Exam, I was clearly experiencing a bout of dementia, and thus signed up to run in a local 5K benefiting the Lion's Club Camp (great cause, people). I then ran it THE WEEKEND AFTER MY BAR EXAM. I'm going to let that sink in for a second. To say this was ambitious was an understatement, especially given my tendency to hate running and life in general after such a harrowing event.

Then I went, and I won the damn thing. It was 3.35 miles long (a quarter mile longer than the 5K is supposed to be), and I ran it in 28:02, which means I actually ran faster than a 27 minute 5K, which has always been a goal I wanted to meet. I even got an award and everything. (Note: I won the entire woman's event, and that was partially because the fast awesome beasts of women were running the 10K and left me to my rookie 3.1 miles, but DAMMIT, I'LL TAKE MY AWARD AND MY CONGRATS AND THAT IS THAT.)

    59) Drink the requisite 8 glasses of water every day for a week: I started trying to do this around the beginning of January, and around the end of March, I not only started doing it, but I made it a habit. I'm now drinking 8-10 (or more) glasses of water every day, and I'm glad I embarked upon one thing that may benefit my health in the long run.

Now if only I could break my horrible crack and list addictions...

    78) Roast marshmallows around a campfire: my little brother was slated to have a sleepover for his 12th birthday, complete with marshmallows and ghost stories and all that. I made him adorable invitations to said event, which he went and distributed to his friends..including GIRLS. :) Imagine my mom's chagrin when one of the girl's moms texted her inquiring about the "co-ed sleepover"  (all in good fun). Long story short, everyone came over, a good time was had by all, and I ate those GINORMOUS marshmallows normally reserved for chubby bunny games at church lock-ins.

(Also, if you never played chubby bunny in a church lock-in, I don't particularly feel sorry for you, because it ruins your ability to enjoy marshmallows for a really long time while simultaneously making you unattractive to the opposite sex for however long it takes them to mindbleach your grotesque and contorted face from their memories.)

    92) Meet up with at least one of my twitter friends in real life: while taking the Texas Bar Exam, I got to meet Zilly and Amby!!!! THIS WAS AWESOME. THEY ARE AWESOME. I lerve them. And I am now resolving to meet more of my twitter friends in real life. Kayla, YOU'RE NEXT.

(Amby and I went out for dinner the night before the exam, which calmed my nerves, and she gave me an adorable "bar exam gift bag" which was precious and awesome and DID I MENTION I LERVE HER? Zilly was kind enough to cart my ass down to the testing site and not strangle me when I got too annoying--because let's not lie, I'm annoying and those tests don't exactly bring out the best qualities in people.)

Some Healthy Habits That Less Right

    habits
Of course sports, rest, and eat foods rich in vitamins is a good habit, but if too much, all that it can cause great harm. And, here's why.
    Too much sleep
Of course everyone wants to be rested enough and unfortunately, most of us do not get it. However, too much sleep has a negative effect. "If you normally only sleep 6 hours during working days, then decided to sleep 9-10 hours when the weekend arrives, so do not be surprised if you wake up with a headache bonus," says Margaret Lewin, MD, assistant professor of health at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York City. "When asleep, the body breathe more slowly, so the CO2 released even fewer. Sleep longer provide opportunities for CO2 to settle in the body longer, lead to headaches."
"In addition to headaches, excessive sleeping person tends to feel depressed, prone to heart, even died," added Dr. Margaret.
    Overdose of vitamin
Vitamins, either from food or pills, is one of the key prerequisites body composition. However, what if an overdose? Is there any impact? According to nutritionists, Lyssie Lakatos, RD, women should be careful with the type of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, because it can accumulate in fat. Unlike the C is water soluble so easily removed through the urine.
Vitamin A is important for eye health, reproductive, and immune systems. Vitamin A is found in fruits and vegetables, as well as milk and eggs. The problem is a lot of food enriched vitamin A. "If you eat cereal with milk, then take a multivitamin, and eat an egg, then most likely, the levels of vitamin A that day was excessive," said Lyssie.
So, what are the signs the body of excess vitamin A? Hair and eyebrows fall out, rough skin, and chapped lips. We recommend that you do not need to add a multivitamin if food already contains sufficient amounts of vitamin A.
    Sports all the time
Throughout the week was sitting behind an office desk, now is the time to sports. Tapiii, wait a minute! "A person who rarely exercise are more likely to get hurt if they are too eager to do it at one time," said Carly Cummings, a personal trainer and founder of Hyp-Yoga Inc.. "I can give tips for beginners is to remember that exercise is a step that must be done consistently for life. So, choose that you can enjoy. Push yourself, even when it comes to body pain, obviously not a wise move." Always start with the sports start slowly and warm up first. Gradually it was very important.
    Excessive Use hand sanitize
Little-bit using hand sanitize  Although experts agree that alcohol-based hand sanitize can stop the circulation of germs, but soap and water hand washing remains a way that is healthier. "Sanitize is provided when there is no hand washing facilities around you. Using a gel cleanser several times, without washing, allowing the bacteria stick in hand." It is better, after the use of hand gel 3 times, you immediately wash your hands with water and soap.
    Abundant Fiber
Indeed friendly fiber for digestion and blood sugar levels. Fiber is also a good friend to those who are on a diet because fiber give a full impression of the stomach. However, eating fiber can lead to excess gas in the stomach, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, "says nutritionist Tammy Lakatos Shames, RD.
    Brush your teeth too hard
Of course clean white teeth were beautiful, but this does not mean you have the right brush too hard and too often. "All the toothpaste must contain abrasive substances (to remove stains), and using too much can harm tooth enamel," said Dr. Margaret. "While brushing your teeth too hard can injure the gums and make it shrink." You better brush your teeth 2-3 times a day with as much pasta and peas size toothbrush with soft bristles-medium.
    Wash your face too often
If the skin is oily and prone to breakouts, then you might be tempted to frequently wash your face. In fact, washing your face too often it will make sensitive skin irritation and aggravate acne. "The goal of face washing is to remove dirt and dust, not peel off the layers of facial skin," says dermatologist Debra Wattenberg, MD. "Washing your face 2 times a day with mild soap is enough."
    Too often health tests
There is a discount from the nearest lab for check-up services. Discounts for some reason, or are too worried about themselves, can cause a person to frequent testing. You need to know, if the doctor does not recommend it. You better check-up is not easy. Why? For many medical devices that emit radiation are less friendly to the body.

Researchers saw a decline of up to 60 percent of the capacity of pancreatic cancer cells to grow, the test mice that had been transferred to the cancer cells, after being given bitter melon extract.
Pare the extract works by preventing the cells from glucose metabolism and make the cancer cells starve and run out of energy sources.
Cancer cells rely largely on glucose for energy growing, because these cells have a problem to produce alternative forms of energy itself.
"Many researchers engineer new drugs to target cancer cells' ability to have its own energy supply, and here we have a compound that is naturally able to do that," said Agarwal, as quoted by Medical Daily.
From now on, do not be rejected again with the properties of this vegetable is slightly bitter.

    The White Queen of Chenonceau

During my castle tour of the Loire Valley, I listened to many audio tours and studied the history of each castle. There was no mention of anything supernatural. The tours contained only the facts. Interestingly, my son's audio tour of the castle of Chenanceau was quite different from mine. It was designed for young children and told a detailed account of the ghost that haunts the castle.

Chenanceau is one of more stunning of the castles in the Loire Valley. It is a beautiful Renaissance castle that stretches across the Loire-Indes River. It was constructed in phases and is a uniquely feminine castle. All of it's owners and occupants have been women and the castle itself seems to whisper this character. The castle was taken by King Henry II in 1517 for his mistress Diane de Portier. After the king's death, his wife Catherine de Medici, took the castle back from Diane and began the elaborate construction of the gallery that stretches across the river. It was completed in 1577.

It is this gallery that is haunted by the ghost of the White Queen. The White Queen was the wife of King Henry III. Following his murder, she retired to Chenonceau and clothed herself only in white. She spent the rest of her life mourning his loss. Even her bedchamber reflects her sorrow. It is black, painted with white flowers.

According to my son's audio tour, her ghost still wanders the halls of the chateau forever mourning her lost love. She is seen by many visitors as a white clad specter weeping in the hall. Many have also reported seeing images of her in pictures taken of the hall. I have included the pictures we took of the gallery. It may be my imagination, but I always think I see a soft white form by the window.

Welcome to the state of Perspective....

Went to another job interview this week. It's for a position that doesn't require a law degree, though I'm sure they use me for all of their lawyering needs at the price of a non-lawyer and without paying malpractice insurance, if given the chance.

I doubt they're going to hire me, although it's a shame, because they all seemed pretty fun. Do I sound more hopeful and less bitter about my lack of employment? HA. Don't let me fool you.

(Don't think I haven't considered working for a Wendy's franchise. Ain't too good for that.)

And if you think I'm joking about the latter description, then I beg of you to send me some job opportunities that don't want to pay me 30,000 per year while claiming me as an employee for their tax purposes while having me claim independent contractor status.

Otherwise, welcome to the lovely state of Perspective. I don't particularly admire its views.

    Texas Bar Examination...The Final Chapter

I sat down to write this post while the news was still fresh, but had technical problems that forced me to abandon the blog for a bit (aka: my computer hates how I treat it and went on strike). As such, you're going to have to get my stale recollection of Thursday instead.

To start at the beginning: Texas Bar Exam results were slated to be released on 5/3/2013, but everyone told me they like to release a day early around lunch time.

Let's just say that on Thursday, I woke up in a tizzy and didn't get much more tolerable as the minutes (slowly) ticked by. I opened the bar exam page around 9:00 and started refreshing every twenty minutes or so while trying to keep myself busy in the meantime. I pace when I'm nervous, and sound more wheezy than normal (which, for an asthmatic, that's saying something)....I tend to hover around "hyperventilating" when I'm anticipating something.

    Pretty much....
Needless to say, my mother wasn't amused. I somehow managed to not freak out until about eleven thirty, at which time I started clicking a lot more frequently. And after 12:00 rolled around and I didn't have scores, it commenced at ten second intervals. By 12:30, I was frantic. But results were still not forthcoming.

By that time, my mom had had enough. She loaded me up in the car and we headed to the nearest Mexican restaurant, where I promptly knocked back two margaritas (on the rocks, with light rocks...a GENIUS idea that makes you look like a true alcoholic) and FORGOT all about the bar examination.

    Get your VITAMEATABAREXAM here!!!!!
It wasn't until my ride home, where I was literally laid across the back seat of the car (at 2:30 in the afternoon, which technically sounds early, but actually means that I had been waiting for three hours by this point) that I got a text from a friend with the link to the results and the words "Uh, I don't know..." that it all came flooding back to me. With as much trepidation as I could manage in my inebriated condition, I scrolled down through the results and LANDED ON MY NAME. My mom thought I was having a seizure in the backseat. I'm not exaggerating when I say I started kicking the roof and rolling around like a Pentecostal preacher at a revival. (I'll let you savor that picture for a moment.) After that, I took one of the most fulfilling naps I've ever had in my life. No lie. Because that's how I roll.

I'm now certified in two states, but unemployed. But still....LICENSED. I'd like to thank everyone for their support and congratulations, for putting up with me, and especially my boyfriend for not only having the faith to fund me on this endeavor, but for also giving up tons of fun time with me (snort) so that I could study and prepare. I have to say, I'm pretty damn proud of myself too, because I studied for this on my own, and honestly didn't think I'd have either the stamina or the dedication to actually pass the damn thing. Guess I can even prove myself wrong sometimes.

Congrats to everyone who passed, good luck to anyone who is taking it again (because, let's not lie, the TBE FRIGGIN SUCKED AND ANYONE CAN FORESEEABLY FAIL IT), and most of all:

(What? Like you're really surprised I used this gif? As if....)
